We are hiring part-time, non-benefited Recreation/Fitness Counselors to work in our Substance Abuse rehabilitation facility in Carmel, NY. The hours are 9:00 AM 5:30 PM on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Monday. These positions may be combined to create a 32 hour full-time, benefited position. The primary function of the Recreation/Fitness Counselor is to provide orientation, training and supervision of all patients and staff in the fitness and recreation aspects of substance abuse rehabilitation. The Recreation/Fitness Counselor is responsible to carry out daily operations of the fitness program and maintenance of its equipment. Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervise patients in all fitness activities and documents / communicates observations / progress to appropriate staff. Ensures the safety and risk management of the department by coordinating / regulating problems to appropriate staff. Provides patients with instruction in: wellness issues, relaxation techniques, nutritional planning, sober life choices and individual fitness program. Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team. Maintains fitness equipment. Provides didactic presentations on fitness aspects of rehabilitation process. Responsible for documentation of fitness assessments, individual consultations, patient recommendations and special patient needs / interventions. Maintains positive interrelationships with the treatment team members, family members, referents and other business resources. Is actively involved in Milieu Management. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Fitness or related field and 1-3 years related experience (experience in athletics, yoga and/or art therapy). Responsible for supervision, safety and activities of children in assigned group while ensuring the safety of all children between the ages of 5-12.
